The City of Maple Grove has put forward a plan to expand/renovate the Maple Grove Community Center to serve our growing and diversifying population. As part of the general election on November 8, 2022, Maple Grove voters approved a half-cent local option sales tax to help finance the Community Center project.
In December 2022, the City Council formally passed an ordinance to impose a local option sales tax in Maple Grove. This action was followed by the city providing notice to the Minnesota Department of Revenue, the agency that announces all local sales tax starts, changes, or ends.
April 1, 2023, is the effective date for the half-cent sales tax in Maple Grove. The half-cent sales tax amounts to a ½ cent for every $1 spent. For example, a $10 purchase will cost an additional 5 cents.
The local half-cent sales tax is applied the same way as the state sales tax. There are exemptions for the half-cent sales tax, such as groceries, prescription medication, baby products, and clothing. Tables showing taxable sales and non-taxable sales are available on the Minnesota Department of Revenue website.
